Recovery Day 1

This AM went well, our able nurse May got Jamie cleaned up a bit and comfortable and even worked her up to sitting up on the edge of the bed.

Things got a little rough later on as Jamie had some major pain. The pain management group came in and quickly started fussing about and after several hours we seem to have things scaled back. Jamie has been dozing much more comfortably, but is still weak and sore.

They are going to do a blood transfusion, although she has been stable since surgery they apparently feel that this will boost her strength.

Shades are drawn, lights are down and we are having a little peace and listening to my "reading time" play list off my iPod.

Jennifer is on her way up to relieve me for a bit while I rendezvous with the Woods for a bite to eat. I don't envy Jen or any of our other family members who traveled on the start of this holiday.

Some beautiful flowers came today from Dave and Nana Thoday and Dave and Barb Mielke, as well as some nice live bulbs from our friends at Vector Engineering. Spruces up the room and takes the edge off that institution stench. Jamie really appreciates everyone's sympathy and the arrival of cards and such always perks her up.

Glad to see all the comments on the blog, when Jamie is having a spike in pain she likes me to read them to her, as it tunes her mind to happier things.

John, good for you to get out and eat. Your health is very important now, mental and physical. Glad they have been able to control Jamies pain somewhat. Jamie,If I could take some of that for you I'd do it in a heartbeat!!! We continue to pray for you both, and love you very much.

Jamie, Just remember that now is not the time to be a hero. Just let those pain meds flow! I had to smile when John said you are still weak and sore!!!!...it's only been 24 hours post-op. They usually say that day three is the worst. So hang in there...by Monday you will start feeling like busting out of that joint. In the meantime, just lay back, zone out and enjoy the attention and weird dreams!!! We love you and talk about you constantly. Nona and Buz

P.S. I forgot to share the big news. Jeff....the curly haired kid on the block...proposed to his girlfriend of 7 years (Sahar)today in the San Juan Islands. Don't know any details yet....just that she said yes!!!

Jamie I am so sorry to hear about your pain. A friend of mine who recently had major surgery had pain management issues that ended up being resolved with a nurse's shift change when she got a better nurse and a different combo of drugs. I hope your "pain management group" is working miracles for you so you can rest.
Lots of Love,
Jen

John, I just pulled out some banana bread for you and the nurses. We'll be up late in the morning/early afternoon. Call or e-mail me(goober9494@yahoo.com)if you would like us to bring anything up for you. Jamie, I'm so sorry you are so much pain. I wish I could take some of it for you. Just take it one hour at a time. Small steps will get you through the toughest of times.

Jamie, Hope the pain level decreases quickly. It's okay to be a wus -- that morphine is great stuff -- oops, maybe I shouldn't be saying that or I may sound like a dope head. Get lots of sleep -- it's the body's way of healing itself. You're probably asleep right now; when you wake up in the morning, you're one day closer to coming home!

P.S. Pete and Kathy were over for dinner tonight. After dinner Kathy and I had bunny-holdiing time. They have been very good (and cuddly, too). They said to tell you to hurry up and get all better.

Hello everyone,

I put an update about Jamie under the 7340, Room # or FLight # section. It may be of some interest to you. Sorry I didn't include it here. I'm not very tech savvy.

Jamie and John,

So glad to hear the procedure went well and that Jamie is on the road to recovery. We are thinking about you all the time, wondering how you are doing and what your are experiencing. I tried to find an inspiring quote to post for you, but couldn't find anything good just yet. Most inspiring of all is you beating cancer and I'm glad you're off to a great start!

Thinking of you...

Jamie,

I wish I could wish your pain away... but that's why they have the good drugs there at the hospital! Just remember, this too will pass. You'll be on your feet again before you know it! Hang in there!

Jamie,

I hope your pain has lessened. I am so glad to hear the surgery went well. You are one of the strongest young women I know. I have drawn more kitchens (in your place) then I have drawn in two years combined. I hope I haven't screwed up your computer too much. I would much rather see you in your chair then me doing a lame job of filling in. Kenny and everyone have been great to deal with and very patient. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and John. Darla Allen wanted you to know that she is also holding you up in her prayers.

John - You'll know Jamie's feeling better when she lets you touch the bed controls! Blow her a kiss from us.

Jamie - Good morning. Hope you got some solid hours of sleep last night. Brace yourself for when the nurses make you sit up and dangle your legs off the edge of the bed again -- standing will be the next big job . . . baby steps, but it will surely mean progress! Hang in there!!
