7340, Room # or Flight #

We spent our first night here at UW. Jamie seemed to rest OK. I did fine too, my night reminded me of our past trans Atlantic trips, intermittent sleep but with nurses instead of flight attendants coming and going all night. One bonus though, I do get to lie down here on the recliner chair that folds out flat. Certainly better than a coach seat, is this what first class is like?

So far this hospital seems top notch. Or is it just Katrina's cookies that are getting us extra service? We will never know.

I have been eating at the hospital cafeteria, and I was excited to find that they have fresh Vietnamese sandwiches. And even better is that they come from the same deli on 12th and Jackson than Dung and Hong Em introduced us to. There is definitely a Pacific Rim influence here, plenty of rice and noodles to keep me away from the junk food.

Jamie's pain is under control as long as she is still, but any movement still brings a grimace and a moan. Despite my desire to give her a hug, it is pretty much hands off, otherwise I get scolded. She has also forbade me to operate the bed and make other adjustments, I am sure I could do it just fine, but I guess I will leave it to the professionals for now.

She has been taking in some ice chips, but of course we are a couple of days away from starting the clear liquids and and a day or two after that until she gets a Vietnamese sandwich.

We are still a few days away from being ready for visitors, but watch the blog and I will post as soon as Jamie and Dr. Goff give the OK.

John, you are hilarious! It was a relief to hear about the successful surgery yesterday and now it is nice to read a post that actually made me laugh (the best part being about keeping your hands off of the bed controls)! I am glad that Jamie is doing well and that you are in good spirits as well. I have cookies for you if you need more ammo for the nurses. Since Jamie is not up for visitors for a while, let me know if you or anyone else comes over to the Eastside in the next couple days and I will get the cookies to them.

Take care, you are both still in my thoughts constantly.

Jamie & John,

So glad that the surgery went well -- what a relief. Now, here's hoping for a very smooth recovery. Once Jamie is feeling better, please give her a (very gentle) hug from us.

The bed comment made me laugh, too. The irresistible attraction of moving parts to an engineer...
Love,
Ali

Okay John, I love your positive thoughts, however it wasn't too long ago I was in the hospital with my Grandma...those chairs are not that comfortable. LOL. They are a nice substitute for what they used to have though. :)

Try to rest while she rests and make sure to give her lots of kisses on the forehead (no hugs) from all of us here at Tectonix!! ~ Leanne :)

Sounds like good practice for the flight to Australia. Hmm...I wonder if flight attendants can be sweetened up with cookies...

Excellent news on the sandwiches too—tasty, healthy and convenient.

Looking forward to seeing you guys soon! -Katrina

Jen - Katrina can arrange transport. For anyone else sending anything, my mom and Sharon Martinez can move product out of Shelton / Oly, and the dispatchers at Key Center (Ralph) or Lenny in Spanaway can send stuff on the tranfer trucks to the Oly yard and then from there it will get up here. Those who know this family know we can move anything through our trucks and "inter-spousal" mail system.

I am glad to hear that Jamie is on the road to recovery. Having had a few surgery's growing up, nothing compared to Jamie's, I remember just wanting more pain killers and to go back to sleep. Jamie get your rest its the best thing you can do and its the only way you can pretend to be comfortable. John if you don't leave the bed alone tell Jamie we will send some sort of device that will allow her to defend herself!

Jamie-

I heard from Mom and I am happy you are finally in a room. I will be seeing you very soon. When I come up, I can ask Katelyn if I can borrow her super soaker so you can use it to squirt John if he plays with your bed, LOL. JOHN I hope you get a chance to slip away and have some rest. I am thinking about you both! Everything in Olympia is taken care of. Call and leave a message at my house if you need anything!
Love,
Jennifer

Jamie,

David & I wanted you to know that we added your name to our baton that we are carrying for the Relay for Life June 1 & 2nd. As we walk our two hour shifts we will have you in our hearts and prayers. Funny coincidence our baton reflects a south pacific native theme to it. E-mail me when you are fully recovered and I will help you with anything to do with Australia. I've been there and have wonderful resources to give to you. I'll order up an Australia poster and send it to you.

Let me know where I can send cookies. I make these gargantuan (sp) ginger spice cookies that could bribe any hospital employee into total submission!

I will be heading back to the hospital this weekend and I will pick up anything people want delivered -- feel free to contact me at annecrase@hotmail.com and I will make whatever arrangements are needed!

I hear you are already looking lovely Jamie (even if you feel like sh$%!). John made fun of the garbage magazines that I bought you, but you can let me know if you want some more :)

Excellent John. Katrina has the goods and is on her way tonight. I seperated them into bags for you and for the nurses but you can steal from the nurse bag:). I also have a much larger bag in the freezer to deliver to you two once you are home and Jamie can actually enjoy them too! FYI: Both types of cookies have peanut butter in them.

To all friends and family,

I am keeping Jamie company, while John is out for a bite with Joel and Katrina. Traffic was cruising at 70 mph which must mean someone is really paving the way for all of us. Jamie started her blood transfusion about an hour ago. It is slow to drip, but I am sure it will do the trick and give her some strength. Jamie is a real trooper, and let's me boss her around a bit to use her breathing tube to keep her lungs open. As the nurse put it, I need to be the meany and make her use it as much as possible even though it hurts. I told him she is used to the little sister being the meany.
Even with that said, it is great to be here by her side.

While she was sleeping, I put together a small scrapbook to give her a few laughs. I hear laughing is the best medicine. She is not ready to crack it open, maybe a day or two. It still needs a scrapboking professional to really finish the job. (nothing is glued down, really). Thanks for all your messages, keep them coming. I just read them to her and it put her to sleep.

Those fold-out chairs aren't bad. Much better than coach! My husband slept in one while I was in the hospital... but then again, he can sleep anywhere :) It's so great to see everyones support, and to know that you guys are keeping in good spirits. A positive attitude is the best cure around, and you guys have it!
