Two-out-of-Six Down!

Here's a down n' dirty update for the faithful readers... Yesterday, Jamie completed IP Chemo #2 (out of six total). She has IP every three weeks, so will finish up at the end of the year. So far, she's doing great with IP, although she says that it does take about 2 weeks to feel back to normal again after a treatment, then she has one good week before heading up to the UW again. IP #3 will be October 21st—the day after her 35th birthday.

We had dinner last night with Jamie and John at the Silver Cloud and Jamie was in good spirits. A little sleepy, and she reported feeling full (obviously a little uncomfortable, since she has 3 extra liters of fluid in her abdomen after treatment), but she did enjoy our Whole Foods picnic, and was her usual upbeat & positive self.

Other than that, she's been swimming, walking, and even working a little when she's not driving up to Seattle for physical therapy for lymph edema, or blood draws (that I hear are much more pleasant through her port than by the conventional needle-in-vein method they could do in Olympia). She even popped in for lunch at our house a couple weeks ago when she was up at the SCCA for PT on her first solo trip up without John!

Just a little addition.......Pete & I were at John & Jamie's last night(Tues)to deliver Shorty, bunny food for BB and GB,and have dinner. John was busy firing up the furnace for the winter and Jamie was resting. We had a short visit over dinner and, though Jamie looks tired, she really looks good. Hopefully, she can sleep through these rough first days and then head up to feeling better again.

Hang in there, Jamie! Australia is just around the corner now!!

Love, Mom C

Hi Jamie,
I knew this treatment was coming up soon so I have been anxiously awaiting the news on how it went. You are being so strong and brave. Hang in there, before you know it this will all be over with. And in the meantime, whatever you want, just ask, it's yours. There's not a lot I can do other than be a cheerleader and cook for you, you are doing all the hard work, so please don't hesitate to ask for whatever you need AND want. :)

Thanks for the post Katrina. We had a good visit with John and Jamie on Saturday night at the Martinez casa - in honor of Ali and AJ being in town. Jamie coordinated the gathering that evening so she would be able to attend, and it was a good time (and excellent food as always). Although Jamie says she is looking more like a "cancer patient" these days (sans eyebrows and eyelashes) her attitude remains amazingly the same... strong, funny, and just generally inspiring to everyone who comes in contact with her.

You make us proud Jamie!

Love,
Anne

Hi Jamie, John and all.

Thanks (again and again!!), Katrina for not only providing this blog but for your updates.

Jamie, you are an inspiration and my personal hero. I can't begin to tell you how much I admire your courage and positive mindset. These are traits I've tried to develop for many years and still struggle with. Thank you for sharing these difficult times with all of us. I truly believe you will be rewarded for your fortitude and bravery.

John, you also have my deepest respect and admiration. You and Jamie are beyond fortunate to have one another. Stay strong.

Much love to you both.

Pat & Audrey
