Introducing....

The Twins!

We have two new young ladies, I mean, hens for our flock. We've had them for two days and they have already settled in quite nicely. They are about a year old and we adopted them from the animal shelter, via a lady who worked there.

They are very different from RC. Spry and slender, which RC is not. The lady at the shelter showed John how to clip their wings, as they could easily fly out of the yard. Apparently if you clip just one side, they have a hard time staying balanced, thus really can't fly too well. RC is so heavy and large, we have never had a need to clip her wings.

So far the girls have been very productive and given us an egg a day. In just two days, we have half a dozen eggs! Don't be surprised if we just happen to drop a dozen or so by. The twins produce a whitish colored egg, slightly smaller than RC. It will be interesting to see if they are different inside.

Yes, we are now officially Crazy Olympia People!

Katelyn and I love your new girls. Katelyn did a math problem with your girls and their eggs.
3x2=6 and half a dozen must be 12-6=6. Anyhow...we love the new briefs. Have you named your new chickens yet?? Would you like some help? Nick said "they should call them c-1 and c-2 for chicken 1 and chicken 2." Katelyn said, "cutie and crazy." I will just keep my comments to myself.

Enjoy those omlettes.

OMG! You are so funny! My aunt has a little city-farm too (in Renton). She has chickens (for eggs) and pigs (Hamlet and Omlet-yes they will be eaten in a few months). I laughed when I read about just clipping one wing. We had a vet that told us to do that with parakeets and it was disastrous! Oscar would climb up something and try to fly but would crash all over the place and damage blood feathers. He looked so traumatized about it all. We only clipped him once. I doubt chickens would have the same problem but that did bring back memories!

Wilson says he can't wait to meet the new chickens! Good for you guys... it was only a matter of time before they hit you up again. I'd love to see Shorty in the chicken coop!

The kids will be so excited, since they already say you have "chickens" (plural) - I guess RC's sweet fluffiness makes up for it.

You really do have a regular little farmlet there. Maybe a pygmy goat (female) to mow the grass??

Sweet egg production!

Hey guys -- It was fun to see your post on the chickens. I'm waiting to see what your next new 'pet' will be! You'll have a full-blown petting zoo before long. Guess we'll have to start saying 'Farmer John' and 'Farmer Pete.'
